Mathias Westerbarkei

Mathias is the founding partner and managing director of Westfälische Corporate Finance GmbH. He advises medium-sized entrepreneurs on mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate finance issues. He is particularly specialized in industries such as mechanical engineering, plant engineering, IT and renewable energies.

He grew up in an entrepreneurs' family in Gütersloh (HAWEG Metallwarenfabrik) and graduated in business administration from the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in Stuttgart.

Since 1996, Mathias has gained broad experience as finance expert in Berlin, Paris and Westphalia. He was Head of Mergers & Acquisitions in the German industrial Mittelstand at CLAAS, the leading European manufacturer of agricultural machinery (over €4 billion in revenue), and CFO of an IT company. During his time in France, he was responsible for the financial integration of the tractor division of Renault, which was acquired in 2003 and had a turnover of 600 million euros.

Over the past 20 years, Mathias has conducted strategic evaluations of hundreds of potential corporate mergers, performed due diligence reviews, carried out company valuations, and holistically supported and successfully completed more than ten M&A transactions. The two largest transactions he managed on the sell-side included the sale of the manufacturing technology division with sales of around €200 million to the listed buyers MBB SE and DBAG. His experience covers various industries such as mechanical engineering, automotive, aviation, retail and information technology in Europe, North America and China.

Today, he is a highly respected consultant for medium-sized entrepreneurs due to his expertise in the design and management of strategic M&A/cooperation projects as well as corporate development, valuation, performance optimization and finance.
